Online Dating Sucks: What You Can Do About It

Ever googled “dating app” or “online dating” only to find yourself intimidated, discouraged and confused by, like, the second results page? Us too. Online dating sucks. We got tired of the seemingly endless results when all we wanted was a way to simplify the dating experience.

Why Online Dating Sucks

The reality is, the dating space is noisy and crowded. There are over 2,100 dating communities in the US alone, and an estimated 4,500 worldwide, ranging from marriage-focused to instant gratification to pen pals, and serving niche communities that cover everything from beard lovers to Bernie lovers to Disney lovers (seriously, it’s called Mouse Mingle). So, like we said, it can get pretty overwhelming out there. This is especially true when so many possibilities start to feel like just the opposite. Psychologist Barry Schwartz coined a term for this phenomenon: “the paradox of choice.” He shows how more options can actually lead to less success and satisfaction.
